I really love watching tv, but good tv and sometimes good shows are not easy to find, but in the last ten years telelvision shows have really grown in style and are more critically acclaimed. Now, movie stars are more willing to opt for television series than huge motion pictures. I have selected some television shows that I believe can appeal to people who understand the significance of great scripts and great acting. There’s plenty to choose from. So enjoy!!!!

The Office

This is one of the funniest tv shows of the times. It is set of course, in the office with a narcissitic boss and muilti layered employees. This show will make you laugh off of your seat because you will be able to related to many situations that happen in your office as well. Trust me, it’s hysterical. 2nd season rocks.

The Sopranos

This is one of the best tv shows I have ever seen. You do not have to like violence, be Italian or know anything about the mafia because this tv show “sucks you in until you are hooked”. The script is phenomenal, the actors are superb and the situations are so realistic it really makes you think. What I really love about this show that you can learn a lot about leadership and management. No joke. There have been books published about the Soprano style. I highly recommend this tv show. It will give you a good “whacking”.

Entourage

This is a new show for me, but I was actually pleasently surprised. It is about a a group of 4 guys in Hollywood. One of which is an upcoming actor and the other guys are his entourage (his old friends from NY including his unsuccessful actor brother). The entourage encounter hollywood celebrities, the pr and all the hollywood hoopla that follow. James Piven plays Ari Gold the agent. He is fantastic in this role. He really nails it. Besides the enourage being horny at all hours and you see that famous people get away with everything, it is a good show to watch. Interestingly enough, you understand the mechanics behind Hollywood.

Weeds

This show is like American Beauty meets Desperate Housewives meets Grace’s Grass. The main character played by Mary Louise Parker suddenly becomes a widow and sells weed to maintain her life style. The problem without stating the obvious is that she has two children and that she is against illegal drugs. I enjoyed this tv show because it outlines how people seem so puritan but behind the doors, it is all a different business. Aslo, you learn a lot about production and distribution.

Sex and the City

If you have never seen this show, you do not know what you have missed. It is the bible for dating, love and relationships. This is one of my fave episodes.

Desperate Housewives

What can I say, desperate times calls for desperate measures. I love all the cast, they are all corky in their own way. We can all identify with one or more of the characters. The unravelling of each season mystery keeps us watching.

The Shield

This is one of those police tv shows but it has depth. Not all cops are good and not all criminals are bad. The Shield displays that people in general are gray and that they strive for self interest. The concept translates well in the series. If you like these kinds of shows, you will love The Shield.

House MD

I cannot go without watching Dr. House. Why? He is exactly the opposite of what we imagine a doctor be. He’s crippled, inhumane, rule breaker and completely in appropriate. However, he seeks the truth which takes courage. Cheers for Dr. House, the doctor we all would love to have.

Grey’s Anatomy

I really really loved this show until season 3. I will explain why; it was a great show about love, death and the rites of the passages of life. It was exquisitely explained and narrated citing various situations that we have all encountered one time or another. However, in s 3, I felt that it lost that message and that the script was written to satisfy the mass instead of staying within the lines of the basic idea. I really hope that season 4 returns to the way it was.

CSI Las Vegas

It’s a crime classic and has influenced our world in so many ways. Anytime a crime happens, we think of DNA and other evidence. We have all become CSI agents in our own way. Think about it. Here is a clip featuring one my favorite American singers.
